Alice Temperley
A Whole New Temperley World
4 April 2013
Three months ago Mayfair, was graced with the new arrival of one of the most sort after and elegant brands of the moment. A designer whose wedding dresses make most girls weak at the knees and running for the nearest man, evening wear so divine that it’s worth putting on a ball just to have the excuse to wear one, then there’s her diffusion line.. Don’t get me started!
Yes, of course I’m talking about Alice Temperley.
For a while I have been an avid follower of Alice Temperley and every part of her brand, from the designs, to her first ever store in Notting Hill. For those who don’t normally venture to Notting Hill, I’m excited to tell you Temperley has just found her second home, set on a fun but sophisticated Bruton Street in Mayfair. This oozes the personality of the designer, every corner, every rail, every piece of artwork was hand picked or commissioned by Alice herself.
As you enter the store it’s like walking into a grand Mayfair home. The lovely Temperley girls welcome you into this beautiful showroom housing the three collections; Temperley London, ALICE by Temperley and Temperley Bridal, which are set over two floors.
Alice has directed the interiors to work sympathetically with the Grade II listed building emphasising the important features such as the hand painted wooden ceiling on the first floor. Decadent details include the shop front ‘Temperley London’ logo etched in gold through black glass inspired by French pharmacy frontages from the 1920’s, unique art deco clothing rails inspired by vintage bird cages and bespoke furniture in rich plum fabrics throughout the store forming ‘conversation areas’, all in an elegant colour scheme influenced by the Regency Era.
Not only do her beautiful clothes fill the space inside this impressive building, so does the work of artists selected by Alice herself, most are friends of hers and have created pieces specially for the store, all these works are for sale. The dolls are made by an amazing Somerset based artist named Alice Mary Lynch, the mirror, which is pictured previously, are done by Candace Bahouth in which Alice did her first internship with Candace aged 14 resulting in her passion for textiles and the butterfly domes are commissioned by Alice through Les Couilles Du Chien on Golborne Road.
Currently the stunning SS13 collection is being shown, if you missed the runway show here’s a little recap -> here.
Girls girls try and contain the excitement..... it's THE.. Bridal room!
The dress pictured below is the most incredible one off piece, worth over £15,000!
Located with other cool designers such as Stella McCartney, Kenzo and Matthew Williamson, Bruton Street is well worth checking out now the world of Temperley has arrived. So many personal touches have been applied to the store by the designer herself, that when you leave you feel like you’ve met Alice personally, had tea, and checked out her art collections! I think you will agree that not many other stores could ever offer this experience.

Behind The Temperley Door With Matilda Temperley
4 March 2013
Some siblings have hair colour or looks in common, some have a similar personality or sense of humour, for the Temperley sisters Alice and Matilda, it's of course their outstanding creative talent!
Recently I had the pleasure of interviewing Matilda Temperley, the talented photographer who has covered all of her sisters shows right from the beginning. I caught up with her on the latest AW13 Temperley London show, which was held at the Dorchester.
What was the atmosphere like shooting backstage before the AW13 show?
The atmosphere was particularly calm for the AW13 show. The show was earlier than normal so the models were not held up at previous shows and the backstage area was big enough to not feel too crowded. I have been photographing Temperley shows backstage since 2007 and the most stressful one for me personally was Autumn Winter 12 because a severely broken knee meant I did it from a wheelchair!
What has been the most memorable Temperley show to shoot and why?
My most memorable Temperley show to photograph was probably the 2007 show in New York. I was brand new to photography and at that time I was still working in Uganda as a scientist so the whole atmosphere was incredibly fresh. However, different elements from each show stick in my memory as each one is a very unique experience.
From the show, which was your favourite Look, that went down the runway?
Look 10! (This is the look on the far left side)
Did you always want to be a photographer from a young age and what would be your plan B career?
Photography is my second career. When I was growing up, although I loved photography, I didn't really consider it a career. I studied at the London School of Tropical medicine and worked in infectious disease control for a few years before deciding to give photography a shot. At that time I was living in Uganda and working in a remote area on the border with Sudan so I took a camera and a manual out there and learnt the slow, hard way without much to distract me. As a photographer you can have a very free life with a reason to look at and document whatever interests you but on the flip side you have to be incredibly motivated.
What started as a hobby for Matilda has grown into an exciting career, she’s shot for publications such as Sunday Times Style, Telegraph Magazine, Marie Claire UK, Marie Claire China, Elle Spain, Elle Portugal, Conde Nast Brides amongst many other projects. As well as shooting at all of her sisters shows she also shoots all of the Temperley London look books and most recently campaigns.
This years Temperley was as beautiful as ever, drawing on inspirations from a film by Alfred Hitchcock.
Alice explains. “Inspired by Hitchcock’s ‘Hedren' we have created a tailored and graphic muse with a balance of allure, savviness, vulnerability and prowess. Textured, rich and structured tailoring appears in Italian Jacquards, fine British checked wool and pristine cashmere. In-house designed and engineered prints and patterns play on the contrasting colours of cream, navy and cobalt, peppered with emerald and gold. Showing a continued evolution of the Temperley woman, today she is an alpha female with a darker side but still luxuriously chic and ultra feminine, whose wish is to live life to the fullest.” Alice Temperley
Honestly I don't think there has been a single Alice Temperley collection that I haven't adored, her latest AW13 collections follows on beautifully from her SS13 collection. Every single item I would adore to introduce to my wardrobe and with this in mind, it's very dangerous that they have just opened a new store right next to where I work on Bruton Street!!
STALK THE STALKER ON
LFW: Temperley London SS13
17 September 2012
Yesterday tweeters, Instagramers and facebookers went crazy, as the first look from Alice Temperley's SS13 collection glided down the runway. Set in the beautiful hall of the Grand Connaught Rooms, Temperley delivered yet again another show that left everyone on a fashion cloud nine!!!
Lights, Camera..... Fashion!
Her Spring Summer 2013 collection was refreshingly light with a fabulously playful edge!
Think 1950s American housewife with a house in the Hamptons and another in Newport!
Africa met New Hamptons, with stunning safari esk hats in creams and blues.
Divine pastels colours, lace and organza, full A line skirts and dresses, oh yes, this Temperley lady is one pretty little chick.
The fabulous Tess Yopp !
As usual Temperley has done it again, another show stopping collection and possibly one of my favourites to date.
After the show we trotted upstairs for cocktails, where we reminisced about the collection and what items we would be pre ordering! Also, I couldn't help but do a spot of Style Stalking, cocktail in one hand, SLR camera in the other! I have many more piccies from the afterparty, which I will be posting towards the end of the week!
Right, onto the next show... Burberry Prorsum tomorrow darlings ;) !!
