Karen is one to watch this year after making the transition
from Channel 4’s hit soap Hollyoaks to hugely successful BBC2 Thriller The Fall
which is back for a second series this autumn. Karen began her career by
undertaking small roles on the stage most notably in Mixed Marriage at the
Lyric Theatre as well as roles in feature films Hunger and Fifty Dead Men
Walking and in TV movies including Scapegoat (BBC) and Last Man Hanging (BBC)
to name a few.
I had the pleasure of stalking this lovely lady in Marylebone and over coffee at Hunter Gather Cafe quizzed her on her next moves.
What are you working on now?
I've just been cast in Vikings. The script is outstanding
and written by Michael Hirst who also wrote The Tudors and Elizabeth. It's also
has an amazing cast and stars Travis Fimmel, Katheryn Winnick and Clive
Standen, to mention a few. It's an incredible show and I feel so excited to
become part of it. Of course I'm sworn to secrecy and can't tell you much just
yet about my part but it's definitely something that has been a career high for
me. I'm getting stuck in and loving every minute of it. I remember mentioning
in an interview that The Vikings was a show on my wish list of jobs and now I'm
here. I'm counting my lucky stars. I've also got The Fall Series 2 coming out
really soon. I was fortunate enough to be cast in the first series and my
character returns again in series two. I've had a sneak peek at it and it's
absolutely thrilling. Amazing performances from Gillian Anderson and Jamie
Doran. As a viewer I'm glued to it then I pop onto the screen and have to
remind myself I'm in it! Written and directed by the super talented Allan
Cubitt, series two is just entrancing.

Last week, London was utterly buzzing with arty action, party after party has resulted in a very burnt out Stalker by today! On Wednesday I popped along to Acne Studios on Dover Street to the launch party of their funky (with a capital F) new underwear line and to celebrate these, their Underwear Memos series.
The series not only showcases the new products,
but also reflects the Swedish brand’s tongue-in-cheek humour and minimalist
aesthetic in a way that will make you smile, even if you’re not sure exactly

Back To Basic Stalking: Brittany

I met the beautiful Brittany a while back and with her very cool rock chick style and numerous tattoos she was a must stalk!! Brittany used to work for Rolling Stone magazine before arriving in London and settling in PR. I quizzed her on her awesome style over coffee and cupcakes in Exmouth Market.
How would you describe
your personal style?
My personal style is very heavily influenced from places where I have lived. I
am from New York, but spent a few years in California, so I would have to say
it is very unselfconsciously laid with a splash of 90’s/bohemian
influence.

They say that love at first sight is only for fairy tales and love stories but beg to differ! On the grounds of the reaction I had to a ring by DUBINI called the Alexander The Great ring! The ring is made up of a silver coin featured in a ring worn by Alexander the Great, the coins are antique and completely unique; in result each ring looks different! I caught up with the designer Benedetta Dubini, a Central Saint Martins graduate who originates from Italy.
What made you decide you wanted to be a jewellery designer? And what do you love about your job?
I’ve always been fascinated by jewellery, but I believe that from the moment I got my acceptance letter from Central Saint Martins I started approaching it in a different manner. I saw the potential there to turn what I loved into a career.
I love the deep relationship that is formed between the wearer and its jewellery. How an item of adornment even in its simplest form becomes a marker of social or personal status. If you analyse what people are wearing it can tell you so much about what their life is about. Are they married? Do they travel? Are they religious?

Hats off to the bridge level brand, what a campaign!
If you are a Londoner then you may have noticed these all around the tubes and billboards - the brand hit it in a big way with broadcasting it's new image, less is more!
The concept:
“One minute fashion tells us to wear this, the next to wear
that. If we followed every fad and trend, we'd get lost in the tangle. This campaign
is about straightening things out. It's about Style & Truth. Fashion may
say 'wear green' but if red is your colour, wear red. Yes, Polka dots may be
in, but if you like that check coat, buy it.
The concept came about because of the dynamic between the
voice of fashion, and these confident, empowered women who had listened to
their own voice instead, and wore what they wanted to wear. It created a
simple, striking set of images that both showcased the clothes, and an
attitude.”

Currently Obsessed: Baum und Pferdgarten

I recently stumbled across a rather cool brand from Denmark when deciding on my outfitting for London Fashion Week. Baum und Pferdgarten
was established in Copenhagen in 1999 by Rikke Baumgarten & Helle
Hestehave, who had just graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Design,
where they had started their creative partnership. They created the brand name
as a humorous interplay between their surnames, and it reflects the dualistic
playfulness, which is also echoed in their design.
I caught up with Christian, head of communications for Baum to find out what's next for them...
What do you do and
why do you love your job?
I look after all our PR and Communications
activities which basically means that I am very hands-on and practical on one
side while also being very strategic. I recruit, brief and support
our PR partners in other countries while looking after the daily dialogue with
stylists, editors and bloggers in three of our main markets (Denmark, Norway
& the Netherlands), I meet with our local VIPs (including the Danish Crown
Princess), I update our Facebook and Instagram, I plan and produce our Look
Books as well as our runway shows and so on and so on… I love three things
about my job: the product (it’s a huge privilege to work with such amazing
pieces), the people (we really have an amazing team spirit going for us) and
the diverse job description (I just love that fact that two days are never
alike – and that one second I plan our international press days and the next
I’m tidying our showroom).

do you love your job?
I work as a Stage Manager in a theatre. I love my job because every day is different. One day you can be trying to source a 1950's telephone and the next day your making a life size dummy out of foam, it's pretty cool.

Designer Stalking: Son Chu, Fashion Designer at Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week has just finished and although I wasn't able to get out there myself, I was able to do a spot of designer stalking with one of the designers who were exhibiting.
Son Chu is a very talented designer who graduated from the Academy of Fashion and
Design (AMD) with a BA in fashion design womenswear. No surprises he received the 'Best
Graduate Award 2014' in fashion design for his undergraduate studies and
graduate collection 'POLYGON'. During his studies Son worked for the incredible Mary Katrantzou. Son Chu’s work is based on craftmanship, experimental fabric manipulation, use of new materials
and innovative digital printed fabrics. He is definitely one to watch. I caught up with him as he was preparing for fashion week!
What do
you do and what do you love about your job?
I
recently started up my own brand SON CHU, which focuses on womenswear clothing. I love it because working in such a creative way and there are no visual boundaries. As a fashion designer you must handle with different tasks at the same
time such as do research for the next collection concept, draw sketches, make
patterns, sewing toiles, telephone conversations, answering emails and so on –
all these are challenging responsibilities I have to take daily, but I love it.
