Stalked: Karen Hassan, Actress

28 October 2014

Karen is one to watch this year after making the transition from Channel 4’s hit soap Hollyoaks to hugely successful BBC2 Thriller The Fall which is back for a second series this autumn. Karen began her career by undertaking small roles on the stage most notably in Mixed Marriage at the Lyric Theatre as well as roles in feature films Hunger and Fifty Dead Men Walking and in TV movies including Scapegoat (BBC) and Last Man Hanging (BBC) to name a few.

I had the pleasure of stalking this lovely lady in Marylebone and over coffee at Hunter Gather Cafe quizzed her on her next moves.

What are you working on now?

I've just been cast in Vikings. The script is outstanding and written by Michael Hirst who also wrote The Tudors and Elizabeth. It's also has an amazing cast and stars Travis Fimmel, Katheryn Winnick and Clive Standen, to mention a few. It's an incredible show and I feel so excited to become part of it. Of course I'm sworn to secrecy and can't tell you much just yet about my part but it's definitely something that has been a career high for me. I'm getting stuck in and loving every minute of it. I remember mentioning in an interview that The Vikings was a show on my wish list of jobs and now I'm here. I'm counting my lucky stars. I've also got The Fall Series 2 coming out really soon. I was fortunate enough to be cast in the first series and my character returns again in series two. I've had a sneak peek at it and it's absolutely thrilling. Amazing performances from Gillian Anderson and Jamie Doran. As a viewer I'm glued to it then I pop onto the screen and have to remind myself I'm in it! Written and directed by the super talented Allan Cubitt, series two is just entrancing.

A career in Fashion PR is one of the most sort after and is certainly not for the faint-hearted! Competition for jobs is fierce and you need plenty of enthusiasm and confidence if you want to successfully sell a client's product to journalists or pitch for new business. Most of all, you need 101% dedication; this is exactly how the founder and director of Push PR succeeded in creating her very cool agency situated in Exmouth Market.

I caught up with Emma over a glass of prosecco and picked her brains on how she achieved what she has and tips for all you aspiring PRs!

There’s no doubt that Benjamin for 3 years has been doing one of the most sought after jobs in the fashion industry. Shoots in glamorous locations, getting up close and personal with some of the worlds greatest designers on a daily basis and then of course there’s the runway shows! Yep, it’s Devil Wears Prada kind of thing, but luckily for him he's not assisting a Miranda type, he assists the lovely and talented Cathy Kasterine, Fashion Director at Large of Harper's Bazaar.

Ben, what do you love about your job?

A couple of the many reasons I love my job is that I get to meet the most fascinating and inspiring people. Everyday I learn something new so life is never boring.

STALKED: Noelle Reno, star of the new TV show; Ladies Of London

5 May 2014

Recently I had the pleasure of interviewing an industry sweetheart, with a career CV to beat all CVs!! From her first company (a babysitting agency, age 10) to her first haunt/adventure as an international model (Tokyo, age 14) fashion industry insider, expert, entrepreneur and broadcaster Noelle has built up extensive knowledge and experience within fashion and media. Noelle founded a diffusion brand with Zandra Rhodes, OBE, marking the first time the icon designer has taken a partnership in her 45 year career.  Noelle’s success has allowed her the freedom to pursue passions such as writing, blogging, and public speaking. She contributes regularly to a variety of publications including Mail on Sunday, VV, The Gent, acts as the celebrity blogger for Britain’s leading department store House of Fraser, and speaks publicly for the likes of the British Fashion Council.

What are you working on now and why do you love what you're doing?

My whole life – from the time I could understand basic things about life – has been about following my dreams. That’s a very difficult path – or at least for me it meant sacrifices, digging deep within yourself a lot, and dealing against high odds. This year, I feel I’m on course with my dream and it’s a deeply satisfying feeling. I get to be creative, be around creatives, and have the nice “wrapping paper” as I call it! Meaning the superficial benefits.
