A New Chapter For Style StreetStalker

18 May 2012

Yesterday I had to pop Notting Hill for a quick business meeting and what better place to hit than Daylesford Organic on Westbourne Grove. One of my favourite areas in London. They do the most amazing juices and salads – all organic oof course! And a pizza to die for! I love the place on weekends, it’s filled with yummy Notting Hill types and a place I am totally addicted to, just sitting outside chilling with friends all afternoon, the perfect place for some serious Style Stalking!

As you will notice, this post is far away from Style Stalking and more towards Gastro Stalking, so therefore, I would like you, my gorgeous readers, to be the first to know that I am merging my food blog; Gastro StreetStalker with my fashion blog! A decision I have made so I can concentrate properly on my two passions in life.. yep food and fashion daarling!!

Although I have had a colleague shout across the office ‘OMG you’re eating an ice cream, yum, I might just vom up my malteasers and go and get one!!!’  -he was kidding of course, as it’s kind of a myth that people who work in fashion eat nothing but sugar snap peas and carrots, I myself is the number one fatty of all fatties and adore eating out as much as I love shopping.. So I have the pleasure to say…

Come and Stalk me on my fabulous food and fashion journey!

Best Museum You'll Ever Experience!

16 May 2012

With the summer approaching and events popping into my diary for the forthcoming months, I thought this would be the perfect excuse to hit the Dover Street Market shopping festival for a spot of retail therapy!

Dover Street Market is one of my shopping and visually merchandised heavens – famed for showcasing well known and emerging designers in a truly unforgettable atmosphere in their highly conceptually designed showroom in Mayfair.
For their festival they were selling eight years’ worth of their archive, therefore, appropriately calling it The Dover Street Market Museum! But this was far from old museum items displayed behind glass cases this was rails of all things Commes heaven!  Set in an underground warehouse, rails were sculpted out of scaffolding and held items which were on sale for 70% – 75% off their retail value, displayed alongside were installations of boats, trunks and garment mannequins. One of my favourite areas was the ‘pay area’ not an area I adore normally as I see the 4 figure sum pop up on the credit card machine, but this was in the well-lit reception area with an enormous sculpture of an octopus and awesome Comme des Garçons posters all around the pay points.

Browsing around the sale I was accompanied by fellow fashion obsessed individuals and couldn’t help but Style Stalk a couple, especially the coolest dude (a stylist of course!) wearing one of the timelessly iconic Comme des Garçons Shirts, which have been re-editing and brought back lately after popular demand – Mr Bear we love you!
The second style savvy individual I stalked was a fashion designer, her t-shirt which caught my eye was her own masterpiece of course!

In true Dover Street Market style this sale wiped the board of previous sales I have attended and is definitely worth watching out for in the future.. warning though if you’re trying to behave yourself and not shop… don’t torture yourself, leave the credit card at home!!!

Up Close & Personal

14 May 2012

Ask any fashion blogger what they enjoy most about street-style/outfit shoots and I’m sure most will say close ups! I love the way you can get some beautiful details that you wouldn't necessarily be able to get on full length shots. In my opinion this style of shot is essential! For any aspiring street-style photographers here are some key and very simply pointers when shooting outfits or street style photography!

1. Reflective lighting:  If you live in a country like I do that has dull weather pretty much all the time, you kind of have to like it or lump it… Soo tip when it’s dull don’t give up, ask your subject to stand against a white or cream wall (if there is one around) as any light will reflect off that and act exactly like the sun.

2. Shoot from multiple angles: It may seem obvious but the more picture you take the better and the more angles you experiment with in the short time you have especially with street style subject, (who you don’t know) take one from the same level, and one from below, play around!

3. Close ups: ALWAYS try and take these as they are gorgeous easy shots and with street style you can’t always guarantee the photograph will turn out to be perfect, so close ups are an easy fall back if something goes wrong.

4. Get shootin’: take lots, stop loads of people that you think are worth style stalking, daunting at first but it gets a lot easier by the end!

Here are some of my fav close ups over the past few months!

Paisley Power

Fashion rule number 1: Never throw anything away!

The fabulous thing about trends is that if you hang onto an item for long enough it will come in and out of fashion at least a couple of times in your life time!
A pattern that has been recycled many times is the pretty kidney shaped design called Paisley, created first in 1888. For SS12 designers such as JW Anderson, Clements Ribeiro and Jil Sanders all delved back in time to create some fabulous designs for this season.

Last weekend as I was sorting out my summer wardrobe for my trip to Morrocco next month, I discovered this fabulous paisley shirt in my mothers closet, which of course she will never see again!! She found it in the Harrods sale 30 years, the design and attention to detail on the shirt is lovely with cuffs that graduate down into points.. hard to explain! :) Check out the pics! I am addicted to rumanging through my mothers wardrobe, in the past I've found some amazing things stuffed at the back.. a bright pink silk vintage Chanel dress was one of my best finds, then there's the Gucci leather coat and Burberry tweed suit, that was made when Burberry was called 'Burberrys'!! So many of my friends are exactly the same with their mothers wardrobes.. So a lesson for when we are mummies -never throw anything away!!! What's your best parental fashion cuboard find?!

Shirt; Mother 'My Style Guru', skinny jeans; Gap, bag; Marni for H&M, wedges; Julian Louie for Aldo, bikini top; Toast, bracelets; Colette Paris, other jewellery; vintage finds over the years, Cat; my own- and a total photograph poser like her mother!
